Brown Butter Salted Caramel Apple Balls
I made this crazy brown butter cake a while back and it is soooo good (recipe is on the site)! But, I really wanted to make a pop-able ball form of it for holiday parties. This recipe takes some patience but tastes amazing and is sure to impress your guests!
Serving size: 8 balls
3 sticks unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
3 sticks of butter
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
3 apples, diced
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup apple cider
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 individual candies
1/2 cup cinnamon sugar, for coating
Brown 1 1/2 sticks of butter in a skillet. Once browned, add your apples until they soften.
Mix in eggs, buttermilk, apple cider and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, salt, baking powder.
Combine dry and wet ingredients. Bake at 375 until golden.
Brown the remaining butter (1 1/2 sticks) again and put in fridge or freezer until it thickens up. Then combine with confectioners sugar to make your buttercream.
Once the cake is finished, add the buttercream and crumble it all together with your hands to form the dough.
Stuff 1 inch balls with the individual caramel candies and roll the balls in cinnamon sugar. Enjoy!
