Thanksgiving Mashed Potatoes & Gravy Balls
Let the Thanksgiving times roll! Into…balls, that is! This recipe is gooey, it’s cheesy, it’s Thanksgiving-y and it will definitely give you all the warm comfort food feels.
Serving Size: 10 balls
1 packet of instant gravy: make as directed
4 potatoes: peeled, boiled and mashed
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup shredded cheese
1 tbsp sour cream
Salt and pepper to taste
3 cups of vegetable oil, for frying
Make your gravy mix as directed. Ours required the packet contents mixed with 1 1/4 cups of water in a saucepan over medium heat for 10 minutes.
Pour your gravy over a baking sheet, with parchment paper down, and put in the freezer until hard enough that you can section off the gravy into pieces to go inside each ball.
Peel, boil and mash your potatoes. Mix the mashed potatoes with your shredded cheese, whole wheat flour, sour cream, egg, salt and pepper. Combine until it forms a dough texture.
Section off the dough into 2-inch size pieces for your balls. In your hand flatten the dough, stuff the gravy inside and full wrap the dough around it. Continue for each.
Heat your vegetable oil on high and drop the balls into the pot to fry. After golden brown on all sides, pull them out and top with a little extra shredded cheese for garnish. Enjoy!
